The Forth is one of many paintings in which I attempted to capture the different weather in Midlothian and Fife, the later can just be made out over the water. Sometimes Fife has the nice weather, other times it's reversed. The cool blues and orange give this seascape painting its calmness.
Sometimes I need a change from my landscape paintings and turn my attention to creating seascape art, as with everything in life you often need a change so you can go back to what you did before with new inspiration.
I never try to be to detailed in my work, I prefer to let he paint go on in a free and creative way rather than focusing on every blade of grass or wave. Doing a seascape painting is often a good way to force you to let go of preconceived ideas as the sea is often vast and without much detail, much the same as most beaches.
Here I increased the colour of the sand and sky to make the sea appear as it did on this day, rather dark and mysterious, as if it knew the weather was going to turn stormy before I did. I often paint seascape views now, sometimes even painting them more than landscape paintings.
To be honest with you as long as I am painting something I am happy.
