Sunny Retreat is a seascape painting which focuses on the water as it folds up and down the sand on the east coast near Mussleburgh. Hear I studied the waves for some time, concentrating on the movement which was hard to capture in oil paint, always going over and over to do it justice. In this painting I hope you get the form and movement of the waves. I enjoy creating original seascape paintings and was really pleased with this image.
I always do wet paintings which means I don't let one layer of paint dry before I move on to the next area of the painting. This makes painting far harder as the oil paint on the canvas mix with each other and can sometimes be disastrous. In this seascape image the mixing of the colours wasn't so much of an issue, in other works it can be very tricky working in this wet oil painting technique.
When I'm not painting landscapes I often turn to the sea to create original seascape paintings as I like the drama of the light and the colours of the sea. On this site you will find a range of both landscape and seascape paintings for sale.
