Summer Haze

Scottish landscape oil painting of mountains for sale view more great art work through the site gallery, find oil paintings by leading artists for sale.

Summer Haze is a Scottish mountains landscape oil painting which looks out towards the Penland Hills which are covered in the haze of the summer evening. The cool colours reflect the time of day, the sun is low in the sky yet high enough to still illuminate the Scottish mountains. This oil painting uses subtle tonal changes to draw the viewer to the far hills which lie in a haze of the warmer air.

I am always trying to capture the Scottish landscape and mountains in as few brush strokes as possible, never wanting to over work any of the paintings I create. To me the greatest art is the art that says a million things with the fewest dabs of the brush, a little like telling a long story with the fewest words possible.

Summer Haze is one of my favorite landscape oil paintings because of the mountains on the horizon, I was very pleased with the way I managed to capture the haze of the warm air and the coolness of the summer evening, two opposing forces balanced within one painting

"There's no retirement for an artist, it's your way of living so there's no end to it."

Henry Moore

"I can very well do without God both in my life and in my painting, but I cannot, suffering as I am, do without something which is greater than I am, which is my life, the power to create. ."
