The Sleeping Hill focuses on a small stream which meanders it's way down from the Pentland Hills. The Pentland's looked very calm on this occasion, the cool blue of the oil paint really added to the silence in this painting.
Even though the evening was coming in I decided to change the oil painting a little by painting a night sky while keeping the warm colours of the landscape. Using this effect I think I manged to get the feeling of a warm summer evening and to me the hills in the background do look very still and calm, its as if the warmer colours of the foreground have really made the painting work well.
I hope to return to this location again soon and do some more paintings as I feel its a great spot to sit and paint. This painting is not for sale but on this site you will find a lot of other original oil paintings which you can buy online.
