Pentland Heather makes use of the vibrant colours which take hold in November. In this oil painting I made use of the valley to draw the viewer up to the skyline and beyond. I try to make my paintings as simple and as contemporary as possible while still keeping some form to the overall art work. These scottish mountains provide the perfect landscape to draw inspiration from and I was very pleased with the vibrant colours I managed to create for the heather.
I am very lucky due to the fact I live next to some incredible scenery just south of the Scottish capital Edinburgh, views like the one above are available all around. A lot of scottish landscape painters paint these mountains and I am happy with my attempt.
